2024 NCAFA Year in Review

Another successful calendar year for NCAFA is coming to a close. It's time to recap an action packed year and take a look back at some of highlights that made our flag & tackle seasons so memorable in 2024.

2024 Flag Season

Another successful flag campaign kickstarted our league year in the spring with 12 different flag organizations, over 2,000 athletes accross the city of Ottawa & surrounding area, and multiple age groups and divisions offered to our flag community.

Led by our NCAFA Director of Flag Football & NCAFA Hall of Famer Rod Moors (rodmoors12@gmail.com), NCAFA flag has become one of the largest flag leagues offered in Ontario with Open & Girls divisions & age groups ranging from U10 all the way to U19. NCAFA flag caters to all skill levels in the world of Flag Football from beginners picking up our sport for the first time to experienced athletes seeking a competitve atmosphere.

The 2024 Flag season culminated in late June as the NCAFA Flag Championships were held at 3 seperate locations (Bob Stephen, Twin Elm & Quinn's Pointe) over a 2 day weekend of fun, celebration & exciting on field action! Thank you to all who helped out all season long & helped make another action-packed flag season a reality!!!

Many NCAFA flag athletes had extremely successful years at the provincial and national stage representing our city, province & country at Football OntarioFootball Canada events this past year. Flag Football was featured at the Summer Games in London, Ontario for the first time and will featured at the Olympics for the first time in 2028 in LA, California.

Registration for 2025 NCAFA Flag opens February 1st. Come join and see why Flag Football is one of fastest growing sports in the world. Stay tuned and monitor updates on our website. NCAFA Flag

New Leadership in 2024

Rob McLaurin took over the role of NCAFA president in 2024 after many years with the Nepean Eagles organization here in NCAFA. His leadership & guidance was on full display in his first year in this role overseeing the day to day operations and implementing a strong culture of our storied league. We would like to thank Rob, Vice President Chris Leonard, Treasurer Ken Schwartz, our board of directors & all league volunteers who spent countless hours dedicating their time to our league in 2024. THANK YOU ALL! and we can't wait to see what's in store in 2025!

Tragic Losses in 2024, Community Rallying Efforts

NCAFA was hit with 2 devastating losses in 2024 as 2 of our own tragically passed away.

This past summer the Bell Warriors, NCAFA and the Burpee, Disundidi & Chikezie families suffered a tragic loss. Jose Burpee, a tyke player for Bell tragically passed away at the age of 9. Jose's brother Godslight along with all Bell Warriors players & many other NCAFA clubs honored Jose during the 2024 season with Jose's #45 stickered on the back of their helmets.

Later in the fall, our community was hit with another devastating loss as long time Kanata Knights player Quentin Dorsainvil was killed at the age of 17. Quentin was a standout football player on the field and had recently moved to Miami to pursue college football in the US. His off the field impact was felt as community support poured in as many players wore the "LLQ" (Long Live Q) abbreviations on accessories throughout the season and Kanata collected voluntary gate fees during their weekend home games during the weekend of September 17th where the NCAFA community showered in with support.

NCAFA extends it's heartfelt condolences to both of Jose's & Quentin's families during this incredibly difficult time and the 2024 season will forever be in memory of both Jose & Quentin as they will be remembered by the NCAFA community forever.

#45 & #99 Forever.

2024 Tackle Kickoff (Tyke Tussle & Mosquito Madness)

One of favourite NCAFA traditions kicked off our Tackle season in early August with Tyke Tussle at TD Place & Mosquito Madness at Bob Barr field in Kanata. A memorable weekend for our youngest tackle players who got to celebrate the season kickoff in a jamboree style format. Thank you to the Ottawa Redblacks, the OSEG Foundation, TD Place & the Kanata Knights for kicking off the 2024 season in style!

TYSN/Media Partnership

This past season, NCAFA officially partnered with Ottawa based media company TYSN (formally HESN) ahead of the 2024 season. TYSN has been covering NCAFA in some way shape or form since 2011 and the company is an avid supporter of our league. In 2024, TYSN led many social media projects for NCAFA, filmed highlights and postgame interviews, created a weekly show covering all things NCAFA  & live streamed our 69th championship weekend & the 2024 Fall Cup on their YouTube channel. TYSN's YouTube Channel   We look forward to working with TYSN in 2025 & beyond and giving our athletes a strong media presence.

OSEG's Continued Support

On behalf of NCAFA and its dedicated members, we extend heartfelt gratitude to the OSEG Foundation for the
invaluable financial assistance and unwavering support generously provided in 2024 and throughout the years. Having our tyke players receive the opportunity to grace TD place to kickoff their season, meet some of the RedBlacks & get to tour the facilities is something the players & families will remember forever. Furthermore, the financial assistance provided to our clubs to help with equipment and other team costs is invaluable and helps clubs do what they do best, focus on football.

The impact of this enduring partnership is palpable, benefiting numerous youth and communities annually. NCAFA is
eager to continue fostering this great collaboration with the OSEG Foundation, confident in the positive outcomes and
transformative effects it will continue to bring to the lives of the youth and the broader community we serve. Together,
we are making a lasting difference, empowering the next generation and building stronger, more vibrant
