It is with great sadness that we inform our football community of the tragic passing of Quentin Dorsainvil, an 18-year-old defensive lineman for the Cumberland Panthers, who was fatally shot in Centretown on Sunday night. Quentin, affectionately known as “Big Q,” was a towering figure on the field and a gentle giant off it, loved by teammates and coaches alike.
“We are devastated by the loss of such a bright young man,” said Mike Schmidt, president of the Cumberland Panthers and Dorsainvil’s coach during the 2023 season. “Quentin was funny, outgoing, and a true team player. His presence will be missed by all who knew him.”
This senseless tragedy has sent ripples of grief through our tight-knit football community. Quentin’s loss is not only deeply felt by those closest to him but by many who watched him grow, both as an athlete and a person. The NCAFA extends its heartfelt condolences to Quentin’s family, friends, and teammates during this unimaginably difficult time.
Football has long been a force for good in the lives of thousands of young people across Ottawa and surrounding areas. It fosters teamwork, discipline, and community spirit. Quentin’s passion for the game reflected these values, and his memory will forever remind us of the positive impact sports can have.
As we mourn Quentin’s loss, we reaffirm our commitment to building a safe, supportive environment where youth can thrive through football. Our thoughts remain with his family and all those affected by this tragic incident. May his legacy inspire us to continue using the power of sport to strengthen our community and nurture future generations.
